Lyrics, just maybe one.. PLEASE?

This past Saturday night I was my friend's plus one for the Soulive/Lettuce show at the Vic. Ah, I LOVE the Vic. I think it is one of the best venues this awesome city has to offer aside from the Metro. Oh, and the Fireside.. MEMORIES.. I need a moment to collect myself. So many adolescent punk rock years of mine were spent at the Fireside. R.I.P.

Back to the Soulive/Lettuce gig -

I was familiar with both bands only by name. I hadn't actually heard the music of either before.  Though, I am not one to EVER turn down a concert - a free one nonetheless. (Aside from tragic events preventing me from attending) So, I did whatever I do when I need to learn about something/someone I turned to the interwebs and research. I landed on their music pages. I learned that Lettuce is a seven-person collective originally formed in 1992. Members of Lettuce branched out and created Soulive in 1999.  Both produce funky- jazzy-soulful tunes that make you wanta move.

After reading/ listening I was looking forward to the show. THOUGH: I should have listened to more than a couple quick seconds of each band. Had I done so, I would have learned that neither dabbles with vocals. In the 90 minutes of the entire show there wasn't ONE lyric! Not one vocal!

I need vocals. I need SOMETHING that connects with the music.

The nice thing about being on a list for a show is usually that also means box seats! In my younger days I use to get right into the crowds at shows. And, depending on the show I can still be found rockin’ away near the front row.  Though, for this show - box seats were perfect, because I was able to comfortably sit, drink my beer, chat with my friends and enjoy people watching.

Overall, the talent was present. The energy was high, but this gig just wasn't for me.
